Segments

Create dynamic groups of contacts based on conditions.

Segments are saved filters that dynamically group contacts based on their properties, tags, list memberships, and activity. Unlike lists (which are static memberships), segments update automatically as contact data changes.

Creating a segment

  1. Define conditions using contact properties, tags, or activity
  2. Preview matching contacts to verify the segment looks right
  3. Save the segment with a name

Conditions

Segments support multiple conditions combined with AND/OR logic:

Property conditions:

  • firstName is "Alice"
  • company contains "Corp"
  • plan equals "enterprise"

Tag conditions:

  • Has tag "vip"
  • Does not have tag "churned"

Activity conditions:

  • Opened a campaign in the last 30 days
  • Clicked any link in the last 7 days

Previewing

Before saving, click Preview to see exactly which contacts match your conditions and how many there are. This helps you refine conditions before using the segment in a campaign.

Using segments

Segments can be used to:

  • Target campaigns to a dynamic audience
  • Analyze engagement across specific groups
  • Drive auto-rules on lists
